  • New 1.33 litre version of the iQ, the world’s smallest 4-seater

The 79th Geneva Motor Show will host two key Toyota premieres: the new Prius and the new Verso. These two models represent the last wave of a 13 model launch programme, and include comprehensive powertrain revisions based on two technologies: Toyota Optimal Drive, which focuses on optimising petrol and diesel engine efficiency, and Hybrid Synergy Drive®.

The new Prius

The new improved Prius hybrid with revolutionary Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology offers lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions plus extra power for enhanced driving pleasure. Just press a button to select the unique EV mode for electric power alone, saving on fuel and for emission-free driving up to 50km/h. Eco mode offers ultra fuel-efficient driving while Power mode provides state-of-the-art petrol engine power and high-speed cruising performance. Benefits include tax friendly C02 emissions, good insurance ratings and high performance-price ratio.

World premiere of the new Verso

Sporty yet stable, the new Verso combines Multi-Purpose Vehicle flexibility and practicality with the style, quality, comfort and driving pleasure of a conventional passenger car. Toyota’s Dynamic Lounge concept and Easy Flat-7 seating system give greater all round comfort and functionality, superior ergonomics and increased load-space. Optimal Drive Technology offers up to 20% more engine power, up to 12% fewer CO2 emissions and excellent fuel economy. It is designed to achieve Euro NCAP 5-star crash test rating.

Toyota Optimal Drive

Standard in every Toyota, Toyota Optimal Drive combines a range of advanced technologies focusing on 3 key aspects: less engine weight, fewer unnecessary mechanical losses and maximum combustion efficiency. Super-light components greatly improve fuel consumption, while low-friction elements bring improvements in engine efficiency. Valvematic technology, D-4D common rail diesel technology and highly responsive Multidrive and 6-speed manual transmissions provide optimal combustion and fuel efficiency. A newly refined Stop & Start system reduces fuel consumption by up to 15%.

Next Generation Hybrid Synergy Drive®

Toyota launched the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle in 1997 and its new improved core HSD technology reflects an ongoing commitment to sustainable mobility in our environment conscious world.

Hybrid Synergy Drive® is a core Toyota technology contributing to increased fuel efficiency and cleaner emissions with a lower CO2 content. The advanced hybrid system combines conventional petrol engine technology with electric motors, letting drivers seamlessly choose between them. The electric motors can power the car on electricity alone on limited-speed short trips. The system includes a high energy self-charging battery lasting the lifetime of the vehicle. Lightweight, low-friction components help reduce energy loss and limit fuel consumption.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle (FCHV)

The new generation Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle, the FCHV-adv, with a newly designed, high performance Toyota FC Stack Fuel Cell, offers outstanding fuel efficiency. Via Toyota-developed high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks it has a single-fill-up cruising range of around 830 km, plus great cold weather performance.

Future Toyota Electric Vehicle (FT-EV)

The new FT-EV Concept short distance commuter is fully electric and based on the Toyota iQ’s compact platform. Features include a powerful electric motor, extended recharge time and a “zero” emission rating.

New 1.33 litre version of the iQ

With Optimal Drive Technology, this revolution in compact design and ergonomic packaging is the ultimate expression of sleek yet environment-friendly mobility. The advanced 1.33L engine generates an impressive 99 DIN hp and maximum torque of 125 Nm at 4,400 rpm. Easy to manoeuvre in town, the iQ also offers long-range comfort and dynamic ability. Toyota’s new Stop & Start system stops the engine in neutral and when the clutch is released, then restarts the engine when the clutch is depressed, cutting fuel consumption by up to 3%. Seamless Multidrive transmission keeps fuel consumption low overall and CO2 emissions are down to just 113g/km. The iQ got top 5-star rating in the new stringent Euro NCAP safety tests.
